Firefox sucks

Yes, seriously:

  • It crashes when I try to close a panel with flash (not every flash, but there are some that crash it regularly), also crashes sometimes when I right click flash (don’t ask me why I do that, I just have to click everywhere all the time).
  • It gradually eats up all the memory. If I fire it up in the morning, by the evening all my 512mb of ram is just gone and I have to close firefox (if I don’t, it fills up the memory completely and crashes (sometimes even crashes the X server)).
  • It takes ages to render some pages, especially some javascript can cause Firefox to go insane, using 100% of processor time for several (dozens) seconds. Scrolling on such a page is almost impossible.

Well, that’s about it. So I tried Opera now that it is free and all, but there is the problem that it takes ages to actually download a page (while rendering is nice and fast (for example from localhost (even with hundreds of pictures))). I am not sure why is that, I have disabled ipv6 and know no other reason that could slow it down.

And I am not really used to Opera’s UI, so I’d prefer to somehow fix firefox (btw it is 1.0.7, will not install anything newer for now because my distribution doesn’t support it and I don’t want to end in dependency hell).

Bill Gates smrdí od hlavy

bill gates smellsSorry for the czech title of this post, but I just couldn’t resist (if you don’t understand it don’t be sad, I’ll explain it later).

I went to the town center today to pay something in a bank, to get a haircut (after half a year I think :-)) and to take some photos, as the sun was shining nicely and in quite the right angle.

This ad cought my attention because of the dinosaurs’ heads. When I read the text it almost killed me on the spot, it read: “Bill Gates smrdí od hlavy”, which means something like “Bill Gates’ head smells”. The footnote states something about Microsoft and evolution, whatever.

I especilly appreciate how precisely it was done, the bubble with text is exactly where the original one was. For some reason I find the text incredibly funny (maybe it is because Microsoft paid a lot of money (yup, the money they sucked from you poor Microsoft customers) for the ad and it actually turns against them).

Yet another SERPs rant

Yesterday I had a look at some of my search engine rankings and this is the result:

  Yahoo!
Search
MSN Alta
Vista
AllThe
Web
here we go trina
herewego.tasuki.org
9 5 4 4
here we go again dmx
herewego.tasuki.org
No 3 35 25
here we go dmx
herewego.tasuki.org
26 3 19 13
here we go
herewego.tasuki.org
22 No 12 11

Google is not included since I am nowhere in top50 (only for trina I am about 75th out of 1.5millions (but yeah, 75th is totally useless)). Now the results are kind of okay, except of msn not ranking me in top50 for “here we go”, it seems as if it had something against my homepage but liked the subpages. However, I have no idea what it could be (and I think I used to rank about 21st).

I am glad that yahoo finally noticed me, however, I am not that glad that it always finds the main page instead of appropriate subpages (for trina and dmx), msn and google do this without problems.

Anyway, still a lot to learn, I guess… 8-)

Cube – wonderful FPS

cube screenshotI just finished about half an hour long session of shooting/killing/getting killed. Cube is wonderful FPS (First Person Shooter) written by Aardappel. It is small (30MB but 25MB is just maps ;-)), free and runs smoothly on my old comp even in 1280×1024.

The game is very fast paced, there isn’t much tactic involved, just take the opponents down. :-) I’d invite some additional features like different colours for players and team game and CTF (Capture The Flag), but it seems that the creator isn’t going to implement it (he is not really interested in gaming… quite strange).

Anyway the game is very easy to handle and completely addictive. :-)

Clever blog spam – cycate kobiety

Some people comment spam on blogs. There are quite a lot of them. Maybe it would be more appropriate to say that there are still people who actually don’t comment spam…

Most of the comment spam is pretty obvious – usually dozens of pr0n, pills or casino links stuffed in a single post. If the maintainer cares at least a bit, it is pretty easy to get rid of this kind of spam.

However, I’ve recently seen something much more clever. There was a normal comment below a blog post, signed by “Cycate Kobiety”. Even with my poor knowledge of Polish I felt this wasn’t the actual name of the poster. With some help from a dictionary (and also by actually having a look at the site ;-)) I concluded that it means something like “busty girls”. That is truely ingenious. The American owner who barely knows where Poland is (no offence), won’t think there is anything weird about the name “Cycate Kobiety” and will just let it go.

People who spam like this don’t even harm maintainer or readers. And if the comment is particulary enlightening it can even be beneficial for the blogger and his readership.

Now I just hope I won’t rank in SERPs for “cycate kobiety”, that would be awkward ;-)

Social bookmarking

So I finally added social bookmarking sites (those nifty little icons just under each post’s title). They allow you to easily bookmark the post in your, ehm, social bookmarks…

I will not go into details, but if you want to know how it works please test it on my blog :-)

For the time being there are links to delicious, digg, spurl and reddit. Any other you use/suggest?

As a side note – I made a new header image (taken from my home), I know it is too contrast with the rest of the page, but I am too lazy to remake the whole design just because of this and I really like the picture (about the only photo I’ve made that I am actually proud of ;-)).

195.113.200.67 – beware – tracking you down

So that’s it, it is totally clear that 195.113.200.67 was responsible for all that clicks.

He/she/it first visited www.tasuki.org or tasuki.tasuki.org, then this blog, which he/she/it browsed around a bit, then herewego, one pageview but two ad clicks (I do not really understand that), then network (one pageview and freaking three clicks). He/she/it finished his/her/its tour around my pages on kgs-map (viewed 9 pages).

Apart from that, u35.vfu.cz is connected with that ip adress, that is “University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Science” in my hometown – Brno…

195.113.200.67 currently doesn’t even respond to pings (seems they turn off cumputers for night), but you can expect some port scanning in near future :)

I am half asleep already, so I’d better leave it all for tomorrow…

Anyway… when I find out who it was…

v7ndotcom elursrebmem bringing visitors?

As I looked at the statistics I noticed there was quite an increase in traffic when I posted about v7ndotcom elursrebmem. Also two people I don’t know posted their comments there. Seems to me that v7ndotcom elursrebmem somehow brings visitors…

Yeah, like this: v7ndotcom [five visitors jump in]… dramatical pause… elursrebmem! [another eight visitors rush to read my post and to possibly add their own links].

Also, if anyone tells me how to (easily) get rid of “rel=nofollow” in wordpress, I will (as I think it only harms people and I hate it myself when I want to spa^H^H^H comment on a blog).

Someone clicking my ads like crazy

Someone is clicking my ads like crazy. Don’t fucking do it!!!

If they close my account I am gonna find out who it was and kill ya. No joking.

I will have access to the stats after midnight and I am almost sure I will find out who it was (as there are almost no visitors), then… beware!

Well, now that I calmed down a bit – got 1 visitor who clicked 3 times on one page and 2 times on the other one, that is like, uhm… not really good.

Shit, if they close my account (and I wouldn’t be that surprised if they did) I am really going to kill you…

Aaaaaaaaargh……….

I live my life one stone at a time

“I live my life one stone at a time; for that one stone, nothing else matters, not my school, not the disgusting world.”

I thought that this quote just deserved a special post. I found it in KGS’ user info of suilki.

The more I read it the more I like it. Any explanation seems to be just twaddle, you have to feel the same way to understand it.
