Films once again 3 comments »

To continue my previous post about films…
A Fish Called Wanda, 1988, 8/10: It’s a comedy, a reasonably good one too. Undeniably Pythonesque.
A Hard Day’s Night, 1964, 7/10: Something between a comedy and a documentary. Maybe documenting a comedy.
Citizen Kane, 1941, 10/10: Classic, well worth watching (some people said that they expected too much and were […]

Helium Vola Be the first to comment! »

Helium Vola is a German Darkwave or “Electro-Medieval” band, at least that is what wikipedia says. But the article is a stub and there isn’t much more info. There is a bit more on last.fm, but nothing special. Amazons has a few good comments on the album.
After searching for half an hour or so, I […]

My opinions about few influential/famous films 4 comments »

During the past few months, I saw several films, most of which are highly praised and widely considered as the best ones.
Here it goes, sorted by year of production, including my subjective score on a 1-10 scale (where 10 is best; I tried to be tough in scoring):
The Battleship Potemkin, 1925, 5/10: This one is […]

Ticketmania 8 comments »

You might have seen my crazy ticket folding gallery.
Well, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
Here are some of the latest, greatest and bestest tickets:
This ticket is currently my favourite, but you’d have to see it as a whole to really appreciate it, seeing from just one direction simply isn’t enough.
Another […]

Empty triangle Be the first to comment! »

Empty Triangle is a great go comics by chidori.
My personal favorites are number 4 (I love it), 6 (how very true), 7 (touching), 8 (love the facial expression), 10 (hey, it’s actually me), 14 (the art in there is just great).
In my humble opinion, Empty Triangle beats all the other go comics (and I’ve seen […]

Skiing in Risoul Be the first to comment! »

I’ve just spent a wonderful week in Risoul (their web sucks big time, but I feel compelled to link it anyway).
It was a great trip, the weather was nice (mostly sunny but some clouds too, which was good because the snow usully kept bellow zero even in the afternoon).
Out of the six days of skiing, […]

Amarok 2 comments »

The creators of Amarok say “rediscover your music”… and I did.
I always thought that having playlists and just opening them with any simple player was enough for me, but now I thought I might try to use something more sophisticated. I tried Rhythmbox, it was simple, clean and working but nothing astonishing. On the other […]

Pick any two 1 comment »

There are three desirable things, pick any two:

No orphans and widows (meaning single line of paragraph is not cut off on one page with the rest on another)
“Řádkový rejstřík” (that’s Czech, I have no idea what it’s called in english, it means that the lines ((not only) on opposing pages) should be corresponding)
Text area height […]

Hanging punctuation 2 comments »

Hanging has been very popular recently… last week USA hanged Saddam, and now I am going to hang punctuation.
I have learned recently that pdfTeX supports hanging punctuation, which is pretty neat. An example:
\pdfprotrudechars=2
\rpcode\tenrm`\-=300
\rpcode\tenrm`\.=220
\rpcode\tenrm`\,=200
I have made a test of hanging punctuation (open the file and read on). There are six pages, first three typeset in Toruńska […]

Comics that I read 2 comments »

Reading comics is a very pleasent way of wasting one’s time, therefore, I’d suggest you a few time-wasters that I really enjoy:
Nerd boy is a very geek ascii-art comics created by Joaquim Gandara. It has about 600 strips and is currently stalling. I suggest you to read the strips in order, as they don’t make […]
