Whoah... a discussion :o

ignus: Yes, wms is the only one working on CGoban/KGS and he wants it to stay that way. He enjoys programming, not managing other programers, and sincerely, I get his point. But I think he should listen to users' suggestions... you know, like at least sometimes.

And yes, admins are mostly invited by other admins, which seems to be good. However, I am not sure how senior admins are chosen, several of them have done things that no senior admin should do, in my opinion.

Freija: Getting banned for different language... hmm, I'd only expect this in EGR, and only after a warning. If someone is swearing at you in private, tell admins and the person will get banned. If they are "bothering" you, just censor them. If you see a nude photo, tell admins and we'll delete it.

Spirit: Yes, I am taking a break (tasuki has been offline for 10 days ;-)). Still, it bugs me, because I wasted a lot of time and energy in that direction.

lobo: Talking about girls is ok, but you have to choose the right rooms. :-P And wms is very proud of his maximum statistical likelihood function (which had several mistakes in it that took a long time to find and correct (talking years here, last correction was about a year ago, I think)), so no chance of KGS ever using anything easy & transparent.

Freija how is talking about girls disturbing to anyone?? Let's not get paranoid, this is the kind of thinking that created this 'ban-this, ban-that' situation.

For me the admin problem doesn't exist because I don't contact them at all, but the issue of ranking is really annoying.

I'm all for an ELO (point) based transparent-system but from what i gather there is just no chance of changing it. I've started some work on new system on SL but after reading posts written by WMS defending the current one, I got so discouraged that I quit.

The way I see it, the only way to deal with this is to redefine your "relation" to KGS. Apparently it changed while you were not looking but you still have to original image in mind.
Trying too hard to make it work the way you want, won't work in all likelihood and only makes you feel frustrated. (An analogy with Frank de Groot comes to mind.) Maybe it's an idea to just stop caring about being an admin for the time being and take some rest from tasuki account.

Some admins are also too rude ...

I think for being an admin.. another admin offers u .However i am not sure.

When u talk with your friend with anoher language(when noone is talking in the room) which is not the rooms main language, admins ban u . But when u see that others (generally guys) are talking about things which disturbs you ( swearing, talking about hotties, girls etc.. ) , noone bans them. When someone bugs you with private messages, swears etc.. admins just tell them to stop.. not helping you.
They check our avatars. But also let some others to put nude photos. I couldnt understand them.
KGS is becoming cheap and nasty.

I am gonna set a new server ;)

Bravo !

And I really mean that. This post is important -- thank you for writing this!

I have seen the indifference of admins on KGS, and some cases in which they abuse their power.

People need to realize that internet Go is for most people an important part of their go life, and is the way for them to get stronger. I learned Go on the net, basically, and I think this holds for a lot of people.

I can understand wms for not wanting to be bothered, he must have a lot on his hands. But why is he the only one working on Cgoban? A few people with the same privileges as he might take some load off his shoulders.. But I don't know how this is handled internally, and what exactly wms's contract with Kiseido is...

I have never understood the procedure for becoming an admin (or for getting fired from that position -- which never happens, it seems!) and what exactly your qualifications need to be.

The only impact this could have is me losing my adminship ;-)

You know, it's not like I have kept all those things for myself... I wrote them over and over on the admin forum (yes, I guess that me repeating the same arguments over and over annoyed quite a few people, but I sincerely didn't see their counterarguments ("it used to be even worse than now" is not a good argument, for example ^_^)).

But I think I will not lose my admin powers, which is one of the better aspects of KGS – freedom of speech.
